How to create a UPI QR code
- Enter your UPI ID - you'll find it in your Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or BHIM profile.
- Enter the payee name customers should see, ideally the name on your bank account.
- Add an amount if you want a fixed price, or leave it empty so customers type the amount.
- Scan the QR code with your own phone and make a ₹1 test payment.
- Download the QR code, or get the free printable poster and put it at your counter.
The QR code holds a standard UPI payment link, for example upi://pay?pa=sharmastore@okicici&pn=Sharma%20Store&cu=INR, which every UPI app in India understands.
UPI QR code with amount vs without amount
Without an amount (most shops)
One QR code for every sale. The customer scans it and types what they owe. This is the right choice for a shop counter, a delivery bag or a visiting card.
With a fixed amount
The customer's app opens with the amount already filled in, so there are no typing mistakes. Use it for a fixed fee - a monthly tuition fee, a gym membership, a consultation, an event ticket or a single product. Add a payment note such as "October fee" so you can match payments quickly.
Where to use your UPI QR code
- Shop counter and billing desk - print the poster and place it at eye level.
- Invoices and bills - add a fixed-amount QR code so customers pay the exact amount.
- WhatsApp and email - send the QR image with the order confirmation. For questions, share a WhatsApp chat link.
- Delivery bags, menus and visiting cards - let customers pay without asking for your number.
- Tuition, clinics and gyms - use a fixed-amount QR code for regular fees.
UPI QR code safety tips
- You never scan to receive money. Scanning a QR code or entering your UPI PIN is only ever needed to pay. Anyone asking you to scan to "receive" a refund or prize is attempting fraud.
- Check every payment in your own app. Don't rely on a customer's screen or screenshot - wait for the payment alert on your phone or soundbox.
- Check your posters now and then. Make sure nobody has pasted a different QR code over yours.
- Consider a business UPI ID for heavy use. Google Pay for Business, PhonePe Business and Paytm for Business give free merchant UPI IDs with sales reports and payment alerts.
Once payments are sorted, your next bottleneck is usually answering questions. See how an AI chatbot trained on your website handles them, or collect more reviews with our free Google review QR code generator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I generate a UPI QR code for free?
Enter your UPI ID and the name you want customers to see, add an amount if you want a fixed price, and your UPI QR code appears instantly. Download it as a PNG or get a free print-ready A4 Scan & Pay poster by email.
Does this UPI QR code work with Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm?
Yes. The QR code follows the standard UPI payment link format, so it can be scanned by Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay and every other UPI app.
Can I create a UPI QR code with a fixed amount?
Yes. Enter an amount between ₹1 and ₹1,00,000 and the customer's UPI app opens with that amount filled in. Leave it empty and the customer types the amount themselves.
Is it safe to share my UPI QR code?
Yes. The QR code contains only your UPI ID and name, which anyone paying you would see anyway. Nobody can take money from you with it. Payments go straight from the customer's bank to yours; FiveMinChat never handles the money.
Does the UPI QR code expire?
No. It is a static QR code that points directly to your UPI ID, so it keeps working for as long as that UPI ID is active and does not depend on FiveMinChat.
Are there any charges for receiving UPI payments?
This generator and the poster are free. UPI payments made from a bank account generally carry no charge for you or your customer. Check with your bank or UPI app for their current terms.
