How to create a WiFi QR code

How guests scan a WiFi QR code
iPhone
Open the Camera app and point it at the code. Tap the "Join network" prompt that appears. Works on iOS 11 and later.
Android
Open the camera, or Google Lens, and point it at the code, then tap "Connect". Most phones running Android 10 or later can also scan from Settings → Wi-Fi → the QR icon next to "Add network".
Laptops
Laptops can't scan the code, so print the password on the poster for guests who need to type it.

- Cafes and restaurants - on every table, next to the menu, and at the counter.
- Clinics, salons and waiting areas - at eye level where people sit and wait.
- Hotels, homestays and PGs - in each room and at reception, so guests stop calling to ask.
- Coaching centres and co-working spaces - near the entrance and in each room.
- Offices - in the meeting room for visitors, on a separate guest network.
Guest WiFi safety tips
- Use a separate guest network. Most routers can create one in a few clicks. It keeps guests away from your billing machine, CCTV and office computers.
- Change the password every few months. Then make a new QR code and poster - the old one stops working automatically.
- Check your posters now and then. Make sure nobody has pasted a different QR code over yours.
- Keep your router's admin password different from the WiFi password you share with guests.

Can I make a QR code for a hidden WiFi network?
Yes. Tick the hidden network option and the QR code tells the phone to look for a network that does not broadcast its name. Type the network name exactly, including capital letters.
